Trail to the Sparrow Field in Point Pelee National Park, 6 March 2011. The good news this spring is that the park will be brush cutting the overgrown "sparrow field" and managing it as a clearing.

The snow has melted and soon Point Pelee will be attracting large numbers of birds and birders. Here are a few unusual species that I spotted in the parking lot last May.
Paul, I always get lost when I go to Sparrow Field. I have no context of what it used to be, but I do agree its overgrown. Maybe one day, I will get the plate: [NRDY4BRDY]!
ReplyDeleteThey used to play baseball in this large open field and birders could stay overnight in the Post House which was located near the northwest corner of the sparrow field. The forested area on the north side of the field was called Post Woods.

ReplyDeleteAnd, I love Point Pelee in the winter (especially when there's snow).
